Introduction
The search for the mystery of the Augustinian culture begins on the roads of the southern Province of Huila emerging from the town of Neiva, and going on the opposite way to the Magdalena River (the longest Colombian river), after searching of its source. Its features are small trees on the edge of the route, all in a row leaned line, resembling a particular shadow on the road, in a shape of a natural tunnel of trees.
Amid this landscape runs a long way on this route through the thick rice fields of Campoalegre, Hobo and Gigante. Weather
Pitalito keeps a warm temperature ranging between 18° and 21° Celsius, except on the rainy months when normally decreases to 12° C. In San Agustín, on the other hand, because of its broken topography, climate changes from warm to cold and bleak in the foothills of the Colombian Massif. In the urban area of the town the days are usually warm but a little cold at night.
Location
Pitalito is the second largest town of the Province, it is located on the road of Southern Province of Huila. It is a step required to reach other southern Provinces as Cauca, Putumayo and Caqueta. This town is about 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Neiva in the valley of Laboyos.
San Agustín is located 32 kilometers (20 miles) on the southwest of Pitalito. It is surrounded by a mountainous area consisting of central and eastern mountain ranges, which have emerged from the Andes mountain in the Colombian Massif. Both towns can be reached by land from Neiva in an approximately four hours.
Culture and Customs
Timana and Yalcón tribes settled what nowadays is the valley of Laboyos and Pitalito. It was a vast territory discovered by Sebastian de Belalcazar around 1538. Pitalito has been growing by leaps and bounds in recent years, becoming an important focal point for traders arriving from Huila, Caqueta, Putumayo and Cauca. In this town, many people derive their income from craft work with clay, which are recognized in the famous public transport buses named chivas in Colombia and worldwide and are distinguished by their colors, their ornaments and quantity stories recreated through its miniature figures.

In San Agustín remains a mystery the enigmatic ancient culture that settled the area before the Christian era that left for the humankind one of the most important archaeological richness worldwide. Gastronomy
In Neiva and in all towns of the southern Province is firmly rooted the habit of preparing the roast pork in clay ovens. This recipe is accompanied by arepa (a thick tortilla made of corn) and insulso, a kind of candy wrapped in corn.
Obando is a small village of San Agustín in a zone of influence closer to the mountains of the Colombian Massif and Provinces of Cauca and Nariño. It is usual to eat grilled meat of Guinea Pig, a rodent that grows up in this part of Huila.
Undoubtedly the most famous recipes are prepared in the southern Huila, and especially in the municipality of Altamira. Its delicious biscuits of achira, the tambourines, cookies made of corn and a number of sweet and salty cravings prepared in very common clay in many houses of the town. The achira is a kind of tuber extract flour for making the famous snacks.

How to get there
Between Bogota and the capital city, Neiva, there are several airlines are operating in a flight lasting for about 30 minutes. Neiva and Pitalito are also connected by a road in good condition in which the journey takes about three and a half hours. The same route of 32 kilometers (20 miles) connects Pitalito and San Agustín; driving time is about 35 or 40 minutes. The road between Bogota and San Agustin is 546 kilometers (about 340 miles) long and the estimated time of traveling is between eight and nine hours.
Attractives
The Province of Huila is a comprehensive summary of the full contents of the Colombian territory. GIGANTE

TIMANÁ
