II MEETING OF CULTURES IN THE PACIFIC CHOCOANO

A commitment for the recovery of the memory of our peoples Afro-Colombians

The II meeting of Cultures in the Pacific-Chocoano will take place in the paradise of the tropical forest in northern Chocó, Colombia. This magical rainforest, lung of the world, is the scene of the cultural gathering from 10th to 15th July. It will offer a variety of cultural groups from Colombia and from around the world, seeking for a cultural exchange of our roots and cultural legacies that have been passed down from generation to generation by our ancestors and are maintained over the time through dance, theatre and music.

This cultural gathering will include activities for all, in the musical area we have a cycle of concerts for the union of the earth, with musical and artistic performances. Also, we have room for exchange of knowledge in a meeting of researchers and exhibitors who work with communities in cultural management as a development strategy. In the sports area, for those addicted to the sea and the surf, there is place to challenge the great waves of up to 4 meters high at the surfers meeting at el Almejal beaches. For the seeker of traditional stuff,  there is a crafts pavilion and a food pavilion, where to get to enjoy the typical cuisine of the Colombian Pacific.

It is important to note that visitors to this cultural encounter can enjoy the “Fiestas de la Virgen Del Carmen”, celebrated by the municipality of El Valle at 45 minutes from the municipal center of Bahía Solano in the heart of the rainforest. For over 200 years, his event has been developed by the natives of Bahia Solano, where young and old people, men and women, go out to the streets, gathering in squares and churches, showing their history and their cultural tradition, called “Bunde”, in which people combine songs and dance to the sound of the drum, with the pacific rhythm through the streets of township.

To the magical call that makes the II Meeting of Cultures in the Pacific Chocoano, attend not only national and international representatives, but travellers without luggage who come from

southern continent. These amazing travellers are the humpback whales “Yubartas”, the turtles to nest in our beaches and over one thousand species of bird that fly to our country in this time of year. Finally it should be know, that this great nature spectacle may be witnesses by who wish to attend the call of the cultural encounter in the pacific, which is free and seeks to work for the recovery of cultural practices as a strategy for sustainable development for the peoples of word.
